An online and by-appointment exhibition celebrating Black, Indigenous, and Latinx artists working at Gateway Arts, currently (remotely), and through the years.
Gateway Arts presents Celebrating Artists of Color, an online and In-Store exhibition, concurrent with Gateway Arts’ Annual Summer Sale (25% off all items through Aug. 31). This exhibition aims to amplify the voices and perspectives of Black People and People of Color. This group exhibition features the work of Black, Indigenous, and Latinx artists who work or have worked in the studios of Gateway Arts, a studio art center for individuals with disabilities. Collectively, we gain understanding through hearing these individuals’ unique voices. The works on view depict a range of subjects as distinct and idiosyncratic as their makers, from Jamilah Monroe’s anthropomorphic animals in her collages, to Darryl Richards’ exquisite Ice Cube rendered in fibers on cardboard. The ongoing struggle for justice and equality for Black People in America is a thread gleaned throughout, and especially in the courageous work of Ashley Barbour in Ruby Bridges and Breonna Taylor, and Jordana Simpson’s Untitled work.
This exhibition is a buy-off-the-wall show, with new works added on a rolling basis, held in The Gateway Store by one-at-a-time appointment only, mask required, Tu-Fr 11-5 | Sa 12-5, as well as online, at gatewayarts.org. To make an appointment, contact Loel at [email protected].
