Studio Art Facilitator

Summary:
Implement arts-based program services, exhibitions, and sales. Provide individual and group studio facilitation to artists at Gateway Arts Studio Art Center while managing the studios. Through assessment and development of service delivery goals funding source requirements, work in partnership with artists to improve artistic skills and self-determination within the studios, as well as in artistic social and community activities. In addition, Studio Art Facilitators provide expertise and leadership in a variety of artistic media. Studio Art Facilitators encourage and inspire connection to the larger artistic community, and work on behalf of Gateway Artists.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below:
Daily Studio Responsibilities and Management:
- Facilitates studio production and manages all aspects of studio operations including but not limited: ordering materials and supplies, producing, finishing, collecting, pricing stocking, documenting and storing artwork.
- Plans adequate studio coverage and daily coverage using available technology.
- Provides coverage and assistance to support opening and closing of facility.
- Provides staffing escorts in and out of facility.
- Contributes to general upkeep and maintenance of the Studio Art Center.
- Promotes a supportive and empowering environment where Gateway Artists learn to advocate for themselves, make their own choices, take risks, and build skills to assume additional responsibilities within the Art Studios.
Case Management:
- Provides case management to individuals; responsible for maintaining records and contact information.
- Prepares for annual team meetings, writes reports, and works on behalf of individual and coordinates with artist, family members, residential supports, service coordinators and other provider agencies and affiliates.
- Participates in annual and team meetings, case management meetings, trainings, community meetings.
- Monitors artists attendance and utilization.
General Responsibilities:
- Prepare for and participate in supervision, Staff Meetings and as needed in various other working group meetings.
- Participate in Gateway Arts Community Engagement Program.
- Train for and assist artists with problem solving issues related to transportation, behavioral and clinical, Safety, MAP, and Human Rights.
- Work in conjunction with managers and provide leadership to sustain systems in place and roll out new regulations as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of formal and informal assessment practices and fundamentals in studio art
- Knowledge and use of problem solving skills and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to act as a positive role model for work and learning .
- Knowledge and use of different learning and communication styles
- Participatory skills, collaborative skills, teaching skills and planning techniques.
- Ability to work independently, aspartofaninterdisciplinaryteam, and in a professional and confidential capacity.
- Knowledge of personal computer applications and equipment and strong writing skills.
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
- Knowledge of Art, Art History, Disability Arts, skills in art production, studio art center standards and practices
- Knowledge of documentation requirements and Vinfen specific regulations, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of psychiatric or developmental disabilities andhabilitation
- Knowledge of empowerment, self-advocacy, and peer support techniques.
Typical Requirements:
- At least 2 years of related experience in an Arts Based Service
- Experience as a practicing performance or visual or studio artist very desirable
Preferred /Required Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in art related field preferred. In some cases, experience may be substituted for academic training.
Driving Requirements:
May be called on to drive for Vinfen using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. A valid driver’s license must be presented at the time of employment. Incumbents must be at least 21 years of age, have maintained a valid US driver’s license for at least one year, and must be able to pass a driver’s screening background check. If driving, must maintain a safe driving record, which is subject to
annual checks. If using a personal vehicle, must possess and maintain adequate insurance.
Physical Effort:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb as this is a very physically active position. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer. Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways. Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living. Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Required Certifications:
CPR is required within two weeks of hire
First Aid is required within two weeks of hire
Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
MAP required within 150 days of hire
