Gateway Arts will open its doors for Brookline Open Studios on Saturday, April 29.
The studio art center has been in Brookline for over 40 years, and provides support for building careers for over 100 artists from surrounding areas.
With the goal of providing individualized, arts-based services to adults with disabilities; Gateway Arts has grown to be one of the premiere progressive art studios for adults in the world. Artists have exhibited their works extensively both nationally and internationally.
When asked why he chose to be an artist at Gateway, artist Nicanor says,
“People told me that I was not smart, but art tells me that I can do something good. When I make art I feel peace and quiet that helps me. When I am making art I feel happy and strong.”
Nicanor will be one of the many artists whose artwork will be featured in Larger than Life, the exhibition that will be on display during Brookline Open Studios. Larger than Life is a group exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Gateway’s studio artists, including large works and works with large subject matter. From self-taught to visionary and classically trained, the artists at Gateway display their varying styles and ways of working.
