Painting, drawing, and collage are important aspects of this studio, but Folk Art originally got its name from the hand painted and decorated wood items created here. Our artists enjoy using their broad array of individual styles and motifs to embellish toys, boxes of many shapes and sizes to trays, frames and furniture. The Folk Art studio also produces sculptures made from found objects. These sculptures range from figurative pieces such as robots and animals, to surreal and whimsical assemblages and even politically themed works.

Artists in the Folk Art studio are often challenged to use their talents and imagination in new ways. It’s not uncommon for an artist to be presented with a group of fake bananas, an old tire, or a discarded doll to get their ideas to blossom.
