Look What I Found: Work from the Gateway Archive
October 20 – November 28, 2020
The coronavirus pandemic has spawned a new way of living for many people worldwide; and in a way, it is responsible for our current exhibition. The Gateway Studios and Gallery have been reconfigured in order to safely accommodate returning artists after a long period of staying at home. In the process of creating individual workspaces with appropriate social distancing, we came across stored artworks which evinced the need for a second look. It was like finding buried treasure, and of course brought back memories from more than two decades ago. It is interesting to realize just how many individuals have walked through the portals of Gateway into a life and work as an artist. Many of the artists represented in this exhibition are no longer living and others have moved on to other places, but some are still here, like Sidney Perry and Carmella Salvucci, who are two of the original Gateway members from its inception in 1973. Everything that is not this moment is the past, whether yesterday or 25 years ago. Join us as we stroll through the decades via the visual expressions of the individuals who have made artwork in this space.
