If someone is interested in becoming a Gateway artist, he or she is invited to come by to look at the setting and decide if it is suitable. At that time, any artwork the candidate might have is reviewed and a potential source of funding, public or private, is identified. Then, if it seems to be a possible "fit," a screening is set up in which the candidate can sample various Gateway tasks based on his or her interests and skills. Abilities are then assessed in different areas such as drawing, painting, weaving and/or ceramics.
Referrals to the Gateway Arts program come from public or private agencies, families, and health care professionals. Self-referrals are also encouraged. You may contact the Director or Assistant Program Director at (617) 734-1577 or by e-mail through our online contact form.
